Joining Our Team

Are you interested in becoming one of the South Hill Volunteers responsible for safeguarding life, limb, and property in South Hill and its surrounding areas? We invite you to apply today either through our online application or by printing the paper version available at the bottom of this page and submitting it to Station 7 from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm. We currently have positions available for Active Membership, Support Membership, and Junior Membership. All applicants must adhere to a 6-month probationary period. 

Active Membership  

-The Candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older (exception) holds a VDFP FFI certification. 

-The Candidate must hold a valid VA driver's license. 

-The Candidate must be able to adhere to SOG # 3-14 Subject: Fifteen (15) Minute Volunteer Response Time to Station from their permanent residence. 

-If elected, the Candidate must pass a medical physical and pre-employment screening provided by the Department. 

-VDFP Training Available

Support Membership  

-The Candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.

-The Candidate must hold a valid VA driver's license. 

-The Candidate must be a minimum of VDFP Firefighter I Certified. 

-If elected, the Candidate must pass a medical physical and pre-employment screening provided by the Department.

Junior Membership

 Any candidate aged between sixteen (16) and eighteen (18) who is elected to membership in the Department shall comply with Section *40.1-79.1 of the Code of Virginia, along with all rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG) established by the Department.
